Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! I'm having a great day. Went to church and lunch and spent the afternoon relaxing. :)

My kids also got me a snuggie! I've been wanting one. I even just made that comment last night when I wanted to lie on the couch and use the laptop. Claire made me 2 cards and she even made me a card from the cat..complete with paw prints in ink! She said "the first one was simba's, but she didn't like it very much so made the other ones with my fingers!"

Here is the card from Simba. Sorry it's sideways, I'm working on the laptop and I don't know how to use this photo program!

This is the inside.

It says, "I Loove ue Im gad that I hav ue Hppy Muths day Luv Simba"
Translation: "I love you. I'm glad that I have you. Happy Mother's Day. Love Simba." Look, she spelled Simba right!

This is the one she made me in art class. It says, "I love uw I cudint be with awt uw claire"
Translation: "I love you. I couldn't be without you. Claire"

I just love the sentiments in her cards! It's things like that that really make me feel blessed to me a mom. The other card she made me said, "Hppy muths day i luve ue much and i hope ue love me too Luve Claire."
Can you make that one out from seeing the previous ones? :) I'm actually really proud of her. She would have never even tried to write that much last year at this time. As you can see her spelling still needs work, but her reading is really coming along.

And not to leave out Nathan, he got me a really cute musical card that plays the charlie brown cartoon music. He's much more the buy a card, sign his name kind of kid! Not like Claire who makes 3 cards and writes a book in each one!

And...
In honor of Mother's day here is one of my favorite poems:

"The Reading Mother"

I had a Mother who read to me

Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea,

Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth,

"Blackbirds" stowed in the hold beneath.

I had a Mother who read me lays

Of ancient and gallant and golden days;

Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,

Which every boy has a right to know.

I had a Mother who read me tales

Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,

True to his trust till his tragic death,

Faithfulness blent with his final breath.

I had a Mother who read me the things

That wholesome life to the boy heart brings--

Stories that stir with an upward touch,

Oh, that each mother of boys were such!

You may have tangible wealth untold;

Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.

Richer than I you can never be--

I had a Mother who read to me.
