Zoo fun!

The kids' grandparents gave them a zoo membership for Christmas.
Claire and I took Chris on his last day of vacation.  (Nathan was at a friend's house...we didn't just leave him behind!)  Chris hadn't been to the Dallas zoo in about 12 years.  It used to be a pretty pathetic zoo, but they have made some wonderful improvements over the years.  He was shocked...it didn't even look like the same zoo to him!  One of their improvements is the new Africa area...

Another one of our favorite areas is the aviary in the kids part....

The thing my kids like best about this zoo, and why I wanted a membership there instead of Fort Worth which is closer, is that they have a nature exchange.  You can take it nature items, trade them in and get points that you can spend getting an item someone else traded in.  They have some very cool stuff there and my kids LOVE it!  I'll have to take pictues inside the nature exchange next time we go. :)

And don't forget...today is Tiggerific Tuesday at the Magical Mouse Schoolhouse so bounce on by to join the blog hop!

Wordful Wednesday

Some pics from our recent trip to the Dallas Zoo:

Tortoises...always my favorite!!

I'd never seen a porcupine this close before. He was cute!

Remember the bird on my head from Monday's post?
Well, we got him to pay claire a visit too!

This one liked Nathan!

My little Chimp:

A real little chimp! :)

They now have a great African savanna area complete with giraffe feeding!

What's your favorite animal at the zoo??

Wordful Wednesday is hosted by Parenting by Dummies and Seven clown circus.

What makes you laugh?

I'm having a rather challenging day with Claire today...very stressful! So, I decided to do a fun post that would make me laugh...just trying to lighten the mood around here a little! :)

A couple of weeks ago we went to the zoo. They have a walk in aviary in the kids area. My daughter just loves it. She was trying desperately to get a bird to land on her. She wasn't having much luck. I, on the other hand, seemed to make a nice perch for this guy...

He landed on my head, not once, but twice!

My kids, of course, grabbed the cameras and snapped pictures!

I was just thankful he didn't poop on me! I was rather worried about that!

I'll post more zoo pics later this week.

Ok, this is something that makes me laugh. What makes you laugh?

I'm also linking up with the L.E.N.S. photo challenge on Home is where you start from.

This week's theme is "This moment".

I think these pics are a good "right in this moment" example! :)

Catching up & the Zoo

Wow, its been awhile since I've posted on my blog! I've had so much going on lately. I think about posts that I want to post, but I never get the time to do it!

So, here is a brief run-down of what we've been up to... Nathan was on a Faith & History team. This is an academic contest where they answer questions over our faith and the history of the catholic church. This was his first year to do it. I was really proud of him. He and his friends did a great job. We've been meeting once a week to study and this weekend was the contest.

We also seem to have a lot of appointments this month...dentists, ortho, had Claire's 7 yr pictures taken, etc. etc. I've posted one of Claire's pictures in the margin of my blog. They turned out real cute. This week is spring break for most area kids, but we still do school. I like to get out at the end of April so I don't usually take a spring break unless we go on a trip.

We also went to the zoo the other day. Claire's girl scout troop had a field trip to the Dallas zoo. I hadn't been there in years. They have a great kids area and a nature exchange. The kids had a blast. We are going back for homeschool day in a couple of weeks.

Here are some pictures from our trip:

The big tortoises are my favorite!

This guy looks grumpy!

Nathan had a good time goofing off!

Isn't this a cool picture?

Claire loved the aviary!

Well, that's a little of what we've been up to. What have you been up to??
