Claire did it!

We've been using the Sing Spell Read and Write curriculum with Claire. We started the K-1 curriculum last year for Kinder. She had a tough time with some of it so we used it as a 2 yr. program. Yesterday she finished it! Actually, she still has a comprehension test to take, but she did the last workbook page and read the last story in the last reader. There were 17 readers in all. I'm very proud of her. Reading did not come easy for her.

The book was called the Raceway book and she had a racetrack poster to keep track of her progress. Here's the poster...

The last story in the reader was about a class who finished their Raceway book and their teacher threw a party complete with a raceway cake that looked like the chart. So, I decided to make one for Claire. It was very hard decorating a cake as a surprise with her in the house! I also had only about 1 1/2 hrs. to do it in between lunch and Nathan's physical therapy. That's definately the fastest I've ever decorated a cake! Here's my cake...

Claire was very excited and surprised to get it! We called the kids downstairs after dinner and my husband said, "ok, who did it?" Both of them said, "I didn't do it!" They didn't even know what he was talking about, but they weren't about to admit to it! Then, he told them to go sit at the kitchen table. I could hear Claire sitting there saying, "I didn't do it, Nathan, you did!" Always quick to blame her brother! Then I brought out the cake and said, "No, Claire, You did it!" She was so excited. I think she said thank you 3 or 4 times.

When she went to bed last night she told me getting that "fabulous cake" was her favorite part of the day! Hearing that was mine!
