Cozumel

Our last port on our Disney cruise was Cozumel.  I had booked an excursion to see the Mayan ruins and Cozumel Highlights.  It was ok.  The tour ran an hour and 15 min. late so it kind of messed up our plans for that afternoon.  There were also too many pushy vendors at every stop along the tour.

Here are some of the ruins....

In the middle of a rain forest it sometimes rains!

The ruins were small, but we still enjoyed seeing them...would have enjoyed it more if it wouldn't have poured down rain on us! :)

The next stop was a tequila "factory" that wasn't an actual tequila producing factory.  It had fields of agave and they explained the process of making tequila and you got to sample it.  It was a pretty good stop.  They sell the tequila there, but I didn't feel pressured to buy it and the tour guide was funny.

While the adults did the tour and tasting they had a pinata for the kids.

The third stop was a scenic beach stop....

It was really beautiful and the shore was nothing but cool sea shells.  I could have spent more time here, but it rained on this stop too. :(

The last stop was supposed to be the site of the first Catholic mass in Mexico.  I was expecting to be visiting a little church.  There was a little church, but you couldn't even see it at first for all the pushy vendors around.  We thought we were going to see a church.  Instead, we saw this...

Then, this guy hands my son an iguana.  We take pictures with it and then the guy says he works for tips.  Well, ok, that was fine.  I gave him a dollar.  My kids had been chasing iguanas around the whole trip so it was worth it to finally let them hold one.

Next, we are called over by this "mayan" so we took pictures with him too.  After ward, he says he works for tips too.  My son, who is just 14, pulled a dollar out of his pocket and gave it to him.  The guy said, "A dollar isn't a good tip."  Can you believe that?  My son just walked away.  We were very turned off.  After we took pictures with the "mayan" we finally saw the little church.

It was a pretty church, but would have really only taken 5 min. to see.  Instead we spent about 30 there being aggravated by vendors.

inside of the church:

If we ever go back to Cozumel I think we'll just do a little exploring on our own.  No more tours like this one.  We like to see the sights on our own better.
