13

Thirteen years ago today I became a mom.
After 17 1/2 hours of labor and an unexpected c-section, we finally got to meet Nathan!

Don't let this picture fool you...he rarely slept! He was the fussiest baby I'd ever seen! He cried everytime I put him down and he refused to sleep in his own bed for 2 years!

But we love him anyway!

And he eventually stopped crying and started sleeping in his own bed.

He spent the first 5 years of his life competely obsessed with construction...road construction, construction vehicles, tools...that's all he thought about every day! We rarely saw him without his hard hat on!

The construction obsession eventually faded and was replaced by a baseball obsession!

Here he is with a giant pretzel we made as part of some school activity a few years ago.

To this day he still LOVES pretzels!

This is Nathan today. A teenager. Sigh. I cannot believe how unbelievably fast the last 13 years have gone by. I also cannot believe I now have a teenager! Heaven help us all!
Happy Birthday to my Nathan!

Wordless Wednesday/Wordful Wednesday

Monday was Nathan's 12th Birthday. In our family, whoever has a birthday gets to pick where they want to eat dinner that night. Nathan chose IHOP because he wanted the all you can eat pancakes. He ate lots of pancakes!

He was stuffed, but still managed to find room for the ice cream sundae they brought him when they found out it was his birthday!

And back at home he found more room for the apple pie that he requested. Yes, no cake for him this year. He asked for an apple pie instead.

I'm now the mother of a 12 year old!!!!

Yikes!!! When did this happen? It seems like just yesterday I had a bouncing baby boy. As of today I now have a 12 year old!!!!!! That's one year away from teenager! Yes, the dreaded T-word is just around the corner. Twelve years have gone by and I really still think of him as my little boy.

This is the little boy who was obsessed with construction when he was little.

He spent all day everyday building roads and buildings.

His construction obsession was only ended by his newfound baseball obsession!

This picture is his first year playing.

Now look at him! Time sure flies!

He hates to have his picture taken so I rarely get any good shots of him. If he's not playing baseball the only time he lets me take one is when he's doing somthing like this....

He's a wonderful child (despite the fact that we got into an argument about the shirt he was going to wear to church yesterday! :) ) He is so smart and really can be so thoughtful and helpful. Just the other day, a jar of pickles rolled out of the back of my car in the parking lot of a store. He asked if he could help and then proceeded to help me clean up all the glass.

He also saw that I was moving my plants back in the garage before this last cold spell and, knowing that my back had been hurting, he came out and moved them all in for me.

Now, if I can just get him to be that nice to his sister!!

So, happy birthday to Nathan...My (gulp) twelve year old son!
