Tips for visiting Disney World: Animal Kingdom

This park doesn't have nearly as many attractions as the others. We spent 4 hrs. there and then left to spend the afternoon in Downtown Disney. We went during early morning magic hrs and there was no one there! I was really surprised at how few were there.

The 2 best things in this park are Dinosaur and Expedition Everest. Expedition everest is what everyone runs to when the gates open so do it first or get a fastpass. I didn't ride it, but my son and husband rode it 3 times...a big thumbs up from them!

Dinosaur was one of my favorite rides in all of Disney World! We went on it twice. It is also a Fastpass ride. You can pretty much walk on it first thing in the morning. It's located in Dinoland. There are also some smaller dino rides there that the kids might enjoy. I took my daughter on the triceratops spin early in the morning and there was no wait. It's just like Dumbo, but with dinosaurs. I told her this is just like Dumbo, but there's no line so we're riding it, not Dumbo. Luckily, she was ok with that!

Other things I'd suggest in this park:
Kilimanjar Safari, Finding Nemo musical, and the Festival of the Lion King show.

The greeting trails here in Camp Minnie Mickey are a good spot to meet the tradional characters. We met Mickey and Minnie there with shorter lines than any other park. We also saw pocohontas here, we didn't see her anywhere else.

Other characters we saw that you don't really see anywhere else were Baloo and King Louie. I think they were in the Africa section. They were quite comical!

When we were exiting the park, right after you walk out the gates, we saw other characters too...Timon, Meeko, Brer Bear, Rafiki. This park had lots of characters that you don't usually get to meet anywhere else.

We didn't eat anywhere in this park so I can't comment on dining.

This park is more like a zoo in some areas and since we aren't big zoo people we didn't do a lot of the animal stuff. We did go on the Pangani Forest Expedition Trail when we got off the safari ride and it was interesting. The kids enjoyed seeing the animals on it.

All in all, this park has a couple fabulous rides and shows, but I can't see anyone really spending more than 1 day visiting it. If you are a big animal lover/zoo person you will probably enjoy parts of it more than we did. We just have a really good zoo locally so that's not something we generally spend time doing on vacation.
