Postcard Friendship Friday

We just got back from a Disney cruise.  This was one of the postcards they left for us in the stateroom. :)

Postcard Friendship Friday #85

We just got back from a trip to Corpus Christi.  Here is a postcard I picked up while we were down there.  My husband and I are both from that area, but we had never visited the USS Lexington before this trip.  The card is supposed to say USS LEXINGTON on the top, but for some reason my scanner wouldn't pick it up.  Maybe because it was in white.  I'm not sure, but here is the card...

The ship is now a floating museum.  We toured almost all of it.  It is a very big ship!
Here are some pictures from the post office on board.  I thought they fit in nicely with this post.

Postcard Friendship Friday #84

So glad to be back linking up with postcard friendship Friday hosted by Beth.  We've been so busy with all the usual spring activities that I haven't had much time to blog.  The kids are finishing up school though and I finally have a little free time.  Just in time to post a wildflower postcard!  The wildflowers are blooming everywhere right now.  I took some pics at a local park yesterday.  You can see them here.

Speaking of springtime, our local paper holds a Peeps diorama contest every year.  My daughter and I entered and ours was selected as one of the top 10.  Voting is going on right now, so if you wouldn't mind clicking on this link and voting for us, we'd really appreciate it.  Claire is so excited and really wants to win!  Ours is the 2012 London Olympeeps one.

If you want to see more pictures of our diorama you can just scroll down.  There's a couple of posts about it below.

Postcard Friendship Friday #83

This is another card I picked up in Hannibal, MO.  The back is actually upside down when you turn the card over.  I thought that was different.  For some reason the scanner didn't scan the bottom of the back of the card.  Its is signed As Ever, Cousin Louis.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Postcard Friendship Friday #82

Yay!  I finally got time to post a postcard for Postcard Friendship Friday.
As always, hosted by Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

I bought this postcard at an antique shop in Hannibal MO this spring when we were there.  There's nothing written on the back, but someone wrote 1912 at the top on the front.  I wonder if that's the year its from.  Printed on the back is "printed in Germany".   I don't know if you can tell from the scan or not, but the pictures are raised.  Its a very pretty card.

Postcard Friendship Friday #82

This is an oversized postcard that I got from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.  Its an untitled work by Erick Swenson.  I don't quite know why, but I like it! :)

Postcard Friendship Friday #81

Just in time for Halloween, here is a postcard I got at Disneyland of the Haunted Mansion.
If you ever go to Disneyland or Disney World make sure to go on this ride.  It is so cool!
I don't know how they do it, but they have ghosts and really cool special effects!

This last picture is one that I snapped of the mansion while we were there.  Every Halloween (and I think Christmas) they decorate it with the Nightmare before Christmas theme.  They change up the ride inside too.  I actually prefer the original ride, but it was neat to see what all they did for the holidays.

Postcard Friendship Friday #80

We just returned from Disneyland so guess what my PFF post is about today?? :)

I actually had a hard time finding good post cards there.  I guess not that many people buy them anymore.  Every shop I went into (and they have a LOT of shops!) carried basically the same ones with the castle and the main Mickey and Friends characters.  The morning we were leaving I looked around the shop in our hotel and found this one...It was what I was looking for all along!  It shows a little bit of everything.  Looking at it now makes me want to go back!  And if this isn't enough Disney for you, you can scroll down and see pics from our trip too. ;)

Here is a parting shot from the It's a small world ride.  On the way out they have a wall of postcards.

Postcard Friendship Friday #79

I spent the evening last night in the museum district of Fort Worth for their educator's evening event.  There are lots of great art museums in Fort Worth and they were all handing out goodies.  The Sid Richardson Museum gave me this postcard of Frederic Remington's "The Sentinel".

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth gave me a whole package of postcards from various artists as well.  If anyone wants to do a little post card swap for one of the cards from the Modern just private email me your address and I'll send you mine.  My email is in my sidebar.

Postcard Friendship Friday #78

My daughter is collecting postcards from all the states.
(if you want to help her out see the link in my sidebar.)
Anyway, someone sent her this one from Connecticut.
We got a big kick out of it since we had just taken a trip to Missouri to
visit the Mark Twain House there!
Now, she has a postcard of both of the Mark Twain Houses. :)

The one in Missouri was his childhood home and this one is his home that he and his wife lived in with their family.  It was built in 1873.  Its a 19 room Victorian Gothic.  This is also where he wrote seven famous books including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

If you want to see the postcard of his Missouri home click this link:

Postcard Friendship Friday #77

Its summer in Texas.  We have had 40 straight days of 100+ degree heat.  That streak was broken yesterday, just 2 days short of breaking the record from 1980.  Now, it hit 101 at my house yesterday, but not at the airport so we missed the record.  Seems like an odd record to want to set, I know, but we have another week of 100+ temps coming so if we already have to be this miserable, I figure we should get the credit for it!  Anyway, here is a postcard of Cancun...I would love to be there right now!!  Look how cool that water looks!

Postcard Friendship Friday #76

Since the space program has been in the news lately I thought now would be a good time to share this card.  I bought it in an antique shop in Hannibal, MO.

The back says:
John F. Kennedy Space Center
N.A.S.A.
Aerial view of Crawler-Trasnporter #1.  This transporter will be used to carry the Apollo/Saturn V from the Vehicle Assembly Building to launch pad 39.

When I saw this card I thought, how interesting to look back on that!
Postcard Friendship Friday is hosted by Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.  Don't know why my link aren't working.  I've been having trouble with Blogger lately.  Here's the link:  http://thebestheartsarecrunchy.blogspot.com/2011/07/sunny-greeting-postcard-friendship.html

My daughter is still collecting postcards from the 50 states.  She's gotten about a dozen different states now.  If you'd like to send a postcard from one of the states just send me an email and I'll get you the address.  We'd be happy to send a Texas one back if you want too!  aimeesland@sbcglobal.net
And thanks to all of you who have already sent her cards!!

Postcard Friendship Friday #75

I picked this postcard up in Springfield when we were there a couple weeks ago.

Here are some pics I took of the inside of the house.  It was so beautiful inside and out!
Some of the furnishings, like this desk, actually belonged to the Lincolns.  Others are just period pieces.

Thanks to all of you who have sent my daughter postcards from various states!  She's been excited to get all that mail!  If anyone is new and doesn't know what I'm talking about my daughter is collecting postcards from all 50 states.  If you'd like to send her one and get a Texas on in return just email me and I'll send you the address.  My email is aimeesland@sbcglobal.net

Postcard Friendship Friday #74

Here are more postcards from our recent vacation. These are from Hannibal, MO, home of Mark Twain. The first one is his childhood home (built by his father) complete with that famous whitewashed fence from Tom Sawyer!

This one is a postcard of the famous whitewashing scence with Tom. Its the same fence that's in the first postcard. It was painted by a local Hannibal artist named Martha Mudd Adrian.

It was great seeing all of the places that influenced Twain so much. If you'd like to see more of our adventures in Hannibal click the following link or just scroll down.

I have a favor to ask of all of my PFF friends (as well as all my other friends too!)...

As you may know, I homeschool my children. My daughter is going to be in 3rd grade next year and will study the 50 states. She's my challenging child so I try to do as much as I can to make learning fun for her. So, she is trying to collect postcards from each of the 50 states. If you'd be willing to help her out we'd really appreciate it! Just send me an email saying you'd like to help and I'll send you the address. If you'd like, send us your address too and we'll send a Texas postcard back to you! My email: aimeesland@sbcglobal.net Thanks so much!!

Postcard Friendship Friday #73

We just got back from vacation so boy, do I have postcards! The first day of our vacation we drove through Oklahoma and Kansas to Kansas City, MO. We didn't stop anywhere in Oklahoma that I could buy postcards, but we did stop at a mega mart gas station thing in Kansas so I got some there. I had never been to Kansas before. All I really saw was interstate though. Here's one of my favorite cards. I like cards with the state and then different stuff all about the state on them. :)

And I thought this one was appropriate for Memorial Day Weekend...

Postcard Friendship Friday #72

In honor of Mother's Day this weekend here is a post card of Mary Cassatt's "In the Omnibus".

I got this at the Amon Carter museum in Fort Worth. I've always loved Cassatt. She has wonderful paintings of mothers and children.

Postcard Friendship Friday #70

It's wildflower time in Texas!

I think I've posted this one before, but I couldn't do a Texas

wildflower post without bluebonnets!

This one is new. I love the windmill in it.

Ever since I was a kid I have loved windmills!

Postcard Friendship Friday #69

I'm posting this postcard of a white tailed deer today because its very spring-like. The White tailed deer is one of the most abundant game animals in the Texas Hill Country. We were just in the hill country this last weekend, but we didn't see any deer except one that had been hit on the highway. :( Postcard Friendship Friday is hosted by Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy. Speaking of spring, my daughter and I entered our newspaper's annual spring Peeps Diorama contest. We made it to the top ten so voting is now opened to the public. We could really use votes so if you'd like to help us out and vote for us click on the following link. Our entry is "Peeping Beauty". Thanks!!

Postcard Friendship Friday #68

This is one of my favorite postcards! (And, I thought, a good choice with Valentine's Day coming up.) I would just love to know the story behind it!

The postmark date didn't show up, but the gentleman dated it 10-3-11. Which is really funny being that this is 2011. It looks like there was once a stamp on it, but it is no longer there. The card is not in the best condition, but I just couldn't resist it when I found it. I loved the mystery of it. The correspondence is written in pencil so its hard to read. The picture on the front is raised so some of those lines came through on the scan which also makes it hard to read. It's addressed to Miss Iva Rogers in Temple Texas.

This is my best translation:

Hello there girl

Are you very mad at me. Don't you think I could get you in a good humor. I couldn't tell for my life why you quit writing to me. I guess you don't like my style tho. I am going to S.D. and will write you again. Be good Iva D.

He also wrote on the front of the card. On the left side it says "A dangerous place to be"
On the right side it says "So I see Dont you remember me my name's Ernest." He also wrote "By By" above the boat.

I would love to know what they fell into with a splash and why Miss Iva stopped writing to poor Ernest. He doesn't sound like he gave up though!
